No. 1585 DAIMLER MOTORS COMPANY
1886, original Daimler "grandfather clock", the first high-speed gasoline engine. The engine was developed by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. On April 4, 1885, Daimler applied for a patent for a four-stroke engine reminiscent of a pendulum clock, hence the name "grandfather clock". The third experimental engine, with snifting valve and surface carburetor, produced around 1 hp. The version of the "grandfather clock" with a smaller displacement of 264 cc and a float carburetor developed by Maybach was tested in road trials for the first time. In 1886, the clock, whose power had been increased to 1.1 hp (809 W) at 650 rpm, was installed in a carriage (Daimler motor carriage). The body of the one-off vehicle was manufactured by "Wimpff und Sohn" in Stuttgart. The first trips were made in March 1887, but before that, in August 1886, the "grandfather clock" was tested in Daimler's boat "Neckar". In 1888, it was used to power Friedrich Hermann Wölfert's airship and became known in the "Daimler-Motorspritze" fire pump, patent no. 46779. A newly developed two-cylinder engine was only used in the two versions of the Daimler steel-wheeled vehicle from 1889. Museum quality

No. 1586 DAIMLER MOTORS COMPANY
1889, the world's first V-engine, developed by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, this drive combined high performance with low weight for the first time, especially as the engine was completely encapsulated. The 2-cylinder V-engine produced 3 hp at 720 rpm with a displacement of 0.9 liters. Daimler and Maybach built the first two-cylinder engine in 1889 in order to achieve greater performance with their petrol engines. It was based on the "grandfather clock" and had cylinders arranged in a V-shape. The company Panhard & Levassor acquires the rights of use for the French market and begins licensed production of the world's first multi-cylinder petrol engine in October 1889. It serves as a universal power source for road, rail and water vehicles, including the motorized quadricycle designed by Daimler and Maybach, the so-called steel-wheeled carriage. Museum quality
