No other driver before him had achieved this and no other driver after him ever managed it again. With an average speed of 206.792 km/h, Fangio also set a new record for an Italian Grand Prix. It was the first time since the Grand Prix was introduced in 1921 that an average speed of more than 200 km/h had been achieved. At the same time, it was the highest average speed ever achieved in a Formula 1 World Championship race outside North America.
